My name is Dr. Sonya McIntyre, and I am proud to serve as the Literacy Specialist for students in grades 3–5 at Susie B. Atkinson Elementary School. I am passionate about literacy and committed to helping students develop the reading skills, confidence, and strategies they need to become successful lifelong readers.

As a Literacy Specialist, my responsibilities include supporting teachers, analyzing student assessment data to identify learning needs, providing targeted literacy interventions, and monitoring student progress to ensure continued growth.My primary goal is to ensure that every student becomes a confident, capable reader by improving reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and overall literacy skills.

I believe that every child can grow as a reader when provided with the right support, effective instruction, and opportunities to succeed. 

I am a dedicated educator with over 25 years of experience serving students across all grade levels. My passion for education is rooted in helping students grow, learn, and reach their fullest potential. I am so excited to be a part of the Atkinson School Community Family and look forward to building meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy traveling, reading spiritual books, and spending quality time with family and friends. I value lifelong learning, meaningful connections, and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
